The IAAEU (Institute for Labour Law and Industrial Relations in the European Union) at Trier University offers graduate students nearing the completion of their PhD and postdocs the opportunity to research for one to two months in residence at the IAAEU. Residing Scholars are invited to pursue their own research initiatives and develop new ideas. The institute with 2 professors and 15 legal and economic scientists, is the leading interdisciplinary organ in Germany for performing research on (labour) law and (personnel) economic questions in one house. We are looking for young researchers that are interested in investigating questions concerning labour markets, personnel economics or the economic analysis of (labour) law during their stay in Trier. We offer a creative and dynamic field of research, an excellent infrastructure and the perfect environment to make decisive progress on a research project. We want to you to present your research plan and paper in our colloquium, where you will engage with our scientists to develop and bring new ideas together. Overview
Dr Cinzia Rienzo is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Brighton, UK and a Fellow at the Global Labor Organization (GLO). Her main research relates to applied micro-econometrics, focussing on labour topics, education, migration, subjective wellbeing and development issues. During her stay at the IAAEU from 27th to 30th June 2023, she conducts research related to the role of unions on immigrants’ wages, co-operating closely with Laszlo Goerke. She is also working on the impact of nuclear explosions on health and labour market outcomes of women in Kazakhstan, as well as investigating long-term effects of childhood exposure to violence on school-to-work transitions in developing countries.
Eva Markowsky is a doctoral student in the final phase of her dissertation at the Department of Social Economics at the University of Hamburg. She is teaching and conducting research on topics related to labour, migration and gender economics under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Miriam Beblo. During her stay at the IAAEU from June 20th to July 1st 2022, she is going to present a meta-analysis on the influence of cultural norms and values on women's labour market participation in the economic's colloquium. This is also her topic of research during her stay in Trier. She is also currently working on the influence of language skills on the labour market success of migrants in Germany, as well as on the global connection between gender quotas in parliament and individual attitudes towards gender justice.
Dr. Anthony Lepinteur is a Research Scientist at the Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Luxembourg and was active at the Institute from April to June. His main research interest lies in labour economics, public economics, genomics and the economics of subjective states. He recently published a number of articles on the effects of greater job insecurity on workers’ behaviours and outcomes. During his research stay at the IAAEU, he gave a talk in the economic colloquium on "Health Inequalities and the Labour Market: Causal Evidence from a Gene-Environment Setup."
Marco Gasperini is currently pursuing his master degree in Economics at Bocconi University. He worked as a guest research assistant at the IAAEU from June 21 to September 10. During this period, besides his duties as RA, he autonomously conducted and presented in the Brownbag-Seminar a study concerning "The Effect of Residing in Segregated Areas on Individual Employment Status in Acute Moments of Crisis".
Sabrina Genz is a researcher at the Institute for Employment Research and a scholarship holder of the graduate program of the IAB. She is currently writing her doctoral thesis on German workforce adaption to digitalization as an external PhD student at the Chair for Labour and Regional Economics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg. From November 4-15, 2019, she was a guest researcher at the IAAEU and gave a lecture in the Brownbag-Seminar on "Digging into the Digital Divide - Workers’ Exposure to Digitalization and its Consequences for Individual Employment". Her research interests are concentrated on the field of empirical labour market economics with a special focus on the employment and wage effects of technological change.
Salwan Saif is s a scientific assistant at the chair of Statistics and Empirical Economic Research at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. He was working as a guest researcher at the IAAEU from May 28 to June 6 and among other things he gave a talk at the Brownbag-Seminar concerning „The Effect of Relaxed Dismissal Protection on Small German Establishments".
Dr. Clemens Buchen is a regular guest researcher at the IAAEU since November 2018. He was at the IAAEU in March, June and October 2019. He is a post-doc researcher at the Chair of Management and Economics at the EBS University. His research work includes applied microeconomics and evolutionary game theory in the fields of Law and Economics and New Institutional Economics."
Dr. Luca Fumarco is currently a postdoc at the Department of Economics of the Tulane University in New Orleans, US. There he conducts research on topics such as education economics and satisfaction economics. He is also a regular guest researcher at the IAAEU.
