The Institute for Labour Law and Industrial Relations in the European Community was established in 1983 as a public institution. It receives financial support from the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate. The IAAEG, a research centre of theUniversity of Trier, is located on Campus II on the Petrisberg. Members of the Institute carry out interdisciplinary research, principally into labour law and the economic and socio-political environment of industrial relations in the European Community.


The Institute has a unique library, whose main holdings are on the national labour law of the member states of the European Community, community law in general, and international labour law. Authoritative works on labour economics, personnel management, and industrial relations in the EU and the USA are also stocked. The Director of Legal Studies, Professor Dr. Dr.  h.c. Monika Schlachter, holds the chair in civil, labour and international law at the University of Trier. The Director of Economic Studies, Professor Dr. Laszlo Goerke, holds a chair in business economics (Personalpolitik).
